Do you want to learn the best way to shape your creative non-fiction/memoir essays and send them out for publication? Want to understand how to find magazines and journals that might be the best fit for your work? Then this is the class for you! We’re all writers, right? But how often do other people see your writing? Take this time to learn ways to share your written words with a larger audience as a freelance writer. Learn how to get your work published in magazines and literary journals, both in print and on the Internet. You will learn how to find a market for your work, send query letters, submit your work, enter writing contests and even blog for fun and profit. Group discussion and shared experiences will add to the content of this practical workshop.
Guest instructor, Harriet Riley, a New Orleans based writer and teacher, will take us through the steps to discover our way to publication and answer our questions about the process. Harriet is a professional writer, former journalist and, as a successful freelancer, she focuses on creative nonfiction. She has taught creative writing for eleven years with Writers in the Schools Houston. Harriet also taught journalism, worked as a non-profit director, and as a newspaper reporter. Harriet recently published articles in Mississippi Folklife, Minerva Rising, and the Wanderlust anthology. She has her MA in print journalism from UT Austin. wordsplusideas.net
